Akubra only accept special order hats once a month , usually around the middle of each month but we accept your orders though out the month and consolidate them all. These hats go into a special order queue and we ask for your patience when placing your special, made to order hats.

Every effort is made to speed up the process but ultimately, Akubra will not sacrifice quality for speed and it is of utmost importance to us, that your hat is made with the highest quality in mind.

On order placement you will get an estimate of the arrival of your hat and this is our best guideline we can extend to you. In 90% of cases, this is very accurate, sometimes however, with special order hats made at a large manufacturing factory like Akubra, there could be delays depending on their production flow and time of year.

We pride ourselves with our customer service and have been in the hat business since 1984. We will make every attempt to keep you updated with your unique order by notifying you as soon as your hat arrives.

** please note we cannot provide refunds for special made to order hats as these are made to order.

About the brand

Akubra is an Australian hat manufacturer. The company is associated with bush hats made of rabbit fur felt with wide brims that are worn in rural Australia.

In 1874 Benjamin Dunkerley arrived in Tasmania from England and decided to start a hat making business in Hobart. His skills as a hatter were backed by his ability to invent machinery, and soon after his arrival he had developed a mechanical method of removing the hair tip from rabbit fur so the under-fur could be used in felt hat making. Previously this task had to be done by hand.

By 2015 Akubra has produced two million hats for the military.

Akubra Hats are still proudly Australian made in Kempsey.
